Book of the Month

Time for an all-new feature here at the 'ol Horizon. Each month we'll select a book that we deem worthy for- well- selection. There is no real criteria here, just a book that tickles our fancy for whatever reason at a particular time.

MAVERIKANIM
Art of Matt Stewart
from Brandstudio Press
2007

Our first Book of the Month is from the creative genius of Matt Stewart. This fantastic art book is chock-full of women (come to think of it, I think I saw a couple of dogs in there. And maybe a scooter. And am umbrella. But it's mostly full of women), from cover to cover. Unlike most art books flooding the market today, Matt's designs are beautifully rendered in full-colour and burst from the high-gloss pages. There is a section dedicated to life drawing, but the collection is generally presented as a showcase of Matt's finished pieces, collected over a three-year span.

This book will knock the socks off anyone who appreciates the female form, or fans of beautiful art in general. 48 pages of stylized depictions of women, including pin-ups, portraits and paintings. Some of the full-page illustrations would not be out of place on a museum wall, but they are collected here and serve as a feast for the hungry eye.

The design aesthetic is just as fully realized as the images adorning the pages. Kudos to Alberto Ruiz at Brandstudio Press for putting together yet another wonderful collection. As with all the Brandstudio books, this volume is a special limited edition, so pick it up now while you can. This book is as fun to touch as it is to look at, I assure you. If you are not familiar with Brandstudio Press yet, you will be. With no less than thirty books ready to hit digital shelves before Christmas, Brandstudio is set to light the independent publishing world ablaze.
